About Lotus of Loss

A Space for Grief, Growth, and the Journey Between

We do not move on from love. We learn to carry it differently.

Grief is one of the most deeply human experiences we share, yet it is often one of the loneliest journeys we navigate.

At Lotus of Loss, we recognize that grief is not limited to the death of someone we love. It can accompany the loss of a pregnancy, the death of a child, the ending of a relationship, infertility, changes in identity, unexpected life transitions, and the loss of dreams or futures we once imagined.

Some losses are visible to the world. Others are carried quietly, without recognition or understanding. Regardless of how your grief came into your life, your experience deserves acknowledgment, compassion, and space.

We believe grief is not a problem to solve, a process to rush, or a condition that follows a predictable timeline. It is an experience that touches every part of who we are.

Why Lotus of Loss?

The lotus flower offers a beautiful representation of our philosophy.

Rooted beneath the surface, growing through dark and often muddy waters, the lotus eventually rises toward the light. Its journey does not deny the darkness from which it grows. Instead, it reminds us that beauty, growth, and possibility can exist alongside difficult experiences.

We see a similar possibility within the grieving process.

Healing does not mean returning to the person you were before loss. It does not require forgetting, letting go of love, or finding a silver lining in something painful.

Sometimes healing begins with simply acknowledging what hurts. Sometimes it means learning to inhabit a body that feels unfamiliar, rediscovering an identity that has changed, or finding a way to participate in life while carrying an absence that never quite disappears.

At Lotus of Loss, we honor that journey.

Our Approach: Supporting the Whole Person

Grief is not experienced only through thoughts or emotions. It can influence the physical body, nervous system, relationships, sense of identity, beliefs, and connection to the world around us.

This is why our approach extends beyond conversation alone.

Lotus of Loss brings together grief education, individualized coaching, somatic awareness, and the wisdom of yoga philosophy to create opportunities for deeper self-understanding and reconnection.

Our work may incorporate:

  • Grief Education: Understanding the many ways grief can present itself and recognizing that there is no single correct way to grieve.

  • Somatic Awareness: Exploring how loss may be experienced physically and developing a more compassionate relationship with the body.

  • Emotional Exploration: Creating space to acknowledge difficult emotions without judgment or pressure to change them.

  • Mindfulness and Meditation: Developing opportunities for stillness, observation, and present-moment awareness.

  • Breathwork, Mantra, and Mudra: Exploring traditional yogic practices as optional tools for grounding, reflection, and self-connection.

  • Gentle, Trauma-Informed Movement: Offering accessible movement practices that honor personal choice, comfort, and individual capacity.

  • Reflection and Integration: Exploring identity, meaning, remembrance, and the ways we continue to grow alongside loss.

Our approach is individualized. Not every practice is appropriate for every person, and participation is always a choice.

A Different Understanding of Healing

We do not believe healing requires closure.

We do not believe there is a finish line where grief disappears or love becomes less meaningful.

We believe it is possible to develop a different relationship with grief over time. One that allows room for sorrow and joy, remembrance and possibility, stillness and growth.

We honor continuing bonds with those we have lost. We recognize that love does not end simply because someone's physical presence is no longer part of our everyday lives.

We also recognize that some losses involve grieving something that never had the opportunity to exist. An imagined future, an anticipated experience, an identity, or a dream can hold profound meaning.

Whatever brought you here, you do not have to minimize your experience to make others comfortable.

Who We Welcome

Lotus of Loss welcomes individuals navigating death-related grief, pregnancy and infant loss, child loss, relationship changes, infertility, identity transitions, unexpected life changes, and other experiences of profound loss.

Whether your loss happened recently or many years ago, whether your grief is openly recognized or difficult to explain, you deserve a space where your experience can be explored without judgment or expectation.

You do not need to arrive knowing what you need. You do not need to have the right words. You simply need the opportunity to begin where you are.

The Heart Behind the Work

Lotus of Loss was created from the understanding that grief deserves more than a conversation about moving forward.

It deserves space for the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual experiences that often accompany loss. It deserves approaches that honor individuality, personal capacity, and the complexity of being human.

Our work is grounded in compassion, curiosity, respect, and the belief that people deserve to remain active participants in their own healing journey.

We are not here to tell you how to grieve, how long to grieve, or what your healing should look like.

We are here to offer support, education, reflection, and opportunities for reconnection as you discover what living alongside your loss means for you.

An Invitation to Begin

Perhaps you are learning to live without someone you love. Perhaps you are grieving a child, a pregnancy, a relationship, or a future that unfolded differently than you imagined. Perhaps you simply know that something within you has changed, and you are trying to understand who you are now.

Wherever you find yourself, there is room for you here.

You are not expected to bloom on anyone else's timeline.

At Lotus of Loss, we believe that even in the presence of grief, there is room for connection, meaning, growth, and life.

Your story matters. Your loss matters. And you do not have to navigate the journey alone.

About Me

Why This Work Matters to Me

My connection to grief is not solely through my education, professional training, or the people I have had the privilege of supporting. It is also deeply personal.

In 2000, I experienced the stillbirth of my daughter, Heather Fiona. Losing her changed my life in ways that words cannot fully capture. Her place in my story, and the love I carry for her, have remained part of who I am.

My experience taught me that grief does not simply disappear with time. It changes, sometimes quietly and sometimes in ways we never anticipate. It can influence how we see ourselves, how we experience our bodies, how we connect with others, and how we imagine our futures.

It also taught me that there is a difference between being told to move forward and being supported as we discover how to live alongside loss.

Over the years, my personal journey, combined with my work in yoga, somatic awareness, and trauma-informed education, has shaped the way I understand the grieving experience. I have come to appreciate the importance of having space to feel, to question, to remember, and to reconnect with ourselves without pressure to reach a particular destination.

Heather Fiona will always be part of my story. Her life, however brief, matters. Her place in my heart is not something I need to move beyond.

Lotus of Loss grew from this understanding: that grief deserves compassion, that love and loss are deeply intertwined, and that we should not have to leave our memories behind to find a way forward.

I cannot promise to make grief easier, nor would I presume to know exactly what another person is experiencing. What I can offer is a compassionate space, thoughtful guidance, education, and practices that invite you to explore your own experience at your own pace.

This work is personal to me. And at its heart is a simple belief: we can honor what we have lost while still making room for the life that remains.

Rooted in nervous-system restoration

Our work is grounded in trauma-informed somatic methodologies that respect your exact pace. There is nothing here you need to fix, optimize, or rush through today.

Loss does not operate on a calendar, nor does it require a linear recovery. Take a breath that you do not have to earn.
